Frame Game / Sixty seconds

Toy

A small browser game about broadcasting.

A small browser game about broadcasting.

The idea

You are a civilisation. You can stay silent, listen, or announce yourself. Each choice reveals something about the universe and about you. The game is short, playable in about sixty seconds, and its point is the same as the essays: the interesting information is often in what does not happen.

Constraints

  • Static HTML, CSS and JavaScript. No backend, no accounts, no build step.
  • Works on GitHub Pages.
  • One decision loop, a handful of endings. The endings should be readable as arguments, not as win or lose.
  • The 8-bit visual reference is Human Resource Machine and TIS-100, not a full game engine. Look at them for tone, not scope.

Status

Not built yet. The first version should be a single index.html that a person can open and finish in a minute.

Why one toy and not a platform

A platform costs months and gets abandoned. One small, finished, shareable thing does more for discovery than a half-built world. If the essays find readers, the toy can grow. If they do not, you have lost a weekend instead of a year.
